Cravaack Should Focus on Creating Jobs, Not Gridlock
Saint Paul, MN – As the Congress begins their August recess, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Minnesota State Council and Healthcare Minnesota President Julie Schnell issued the following statement on Representative Chip Cravaack's repeated failure to support job creation for ordinary Americans over the interests of multi-millionaires and giant corporations.
"As Representative Chip Cravaack leaves Washington, DC, he continues his streak of voting for radical fiscal policies that favor Wall Street CEOs and large corporations over the interests of ordinary Americans, including jobs, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. First, he voted for the radical Ryan budget that would give away more than $2.9 trillion in tax breaks for the richest Americans and giant corporations and kill more than 2.5 million jobs, including over 25,000 health care jobs in Minnesota alone. And, just before leaving Washington, Representative Cravaack voted time and again against any compromise whatsoever to avoid default on our nation’s debt so he could safeguard subsidies for big oil companies and deficit-busting tax breaks for millionaires, corporate jet owners, and large corporations that ship American jobs overseas.
With the economy still struggling, working families are fed up with stubborn partisan politics that create gridlock in Congress. Minnesotans are demanding that their elected officials focus on creating jobs, and if Cravaack wants to represent his constituents in Minnesota, he needs to stop focusing on millionaires and start creating jobs."
